Overview
How to save a moment
By hotkey: pressing the clip key in game saves the last seconds. Each key has its own length (for example, one for the last 30 seconds, another for 2 minutes); keys and lengths can be changed in settings.
By voice: saying “Rewind” saves a clip.
With a gamepad: a clip can be saved with a gamepad button; enable it in settings.
Automatically: in CS2 and for rare Steam achievements, see “Auto moments”.
Recording buffer
Rewind continuously keeps the last minutes of gameplay, so a clip can be saved after everything has already happened.
The buffer goes up to 20 minutes and is sized by the longest hotkey. If memory is short, the app shortens the buffer and says so.
The buffer can be kept on disk; the path is chosen in settings.
Is it really free?
Yes. Rewind is currently free: no watermark and no ads.
Is there a version for Mac or Linux?
No, Rewind works only on Windows.
Recording and audio
Microphone, voice, and game audio
Game, system, and voice audio are recorded together, with separate volume controls.
Noise suppression removes background noise from the microphone so that voice in a clip sounds clean.
Alert sounds (clip saved, screenshot, long recording) are not included in the recording; the toggle and volume are on the “Moments” page.
Auto moments
Counter-Strike 2: a clip is saved automatically on a 3K, 4K, ace, knife or Zeus kill, one-tap, and collateral. Works through Valve’s official channel, without touching the game. Enabled in Competitive, Wingman, and Casual; modes and events can be changed on the “Auto moments” page.
Steam achievements: the app saves a clip when a player earns a rare achievement, labeled with the achievement name and marked on the timeline. You can choose: only very rare (5% of players or fewer), rare (10% or fewer), or all.
Dota 2, League of Legends, and Rocket League are still in the works.
Long recording and bookmarks
Long recording: the app can record an entire game.
The “Bookmark” key marks points in a long recording; sessions are kept separate from moments.
Which games are supported?
Any game on Windows can be recorded. Auto moments currently work in CS2 and for Steam achievements.
Clips and links
How to share a clip
The clip window has a “Share” button that creates a link.
Choose who can see the clip and who can comment on it, then click “Copy”.
The link has an expiry, shown next to it. The recipient opens the clip in a browser and does not need to install Rewind.
Clip trimming
The “Trim” button opens that exact clip. Move the edges, then save the clip.
Trimming doesn’t silently replace the original: the app asks first.
Account and sign-in
Profile, friends, and comments
Every user has a profile page: banner, games and achievements, gear, in-game nicknames, goal and “want to play”, custom text. Editable right on the page.
People: following and followers, search by nickname, a notification bell, block and report. Pop-up notifications do not appear during gameplay.
Under a clip you can like, reply, pin, edit, and delete your own comments.
Sign in with Discord and Google
Discord shares only the name and picture with the app. Google Drive is needed only for uploading clips to Drive: Rewind sees only the files it creates itself.
Storage
Where are clips saved?
To the user’s computer, in the “Videos” folder. A clip leaves the computer only when the user clicks “Share”.
How do I delete a clip?
In the library: a deleted clip goes to the Windows Recycle Bin and can be restored from there.
Link lifetime
The link to a shared clip stays active for a limited time, currently 7 days. After that the clip is deleted from the service; it remains on the computer.
Privacy
What others see
A clip is available only by link and only to the people the author chose. The author decides who can comment. Until a clip is published, it stays on the computer only.
Reports and blocking
A user can be reported and blocked: both are available in the “People” section of the app.
Documents
Full texts: “Documents” at the bottom of the page.
Troubleshooting
Why wasn’t my clip saved?
Check that recording is running and the key isn’t taken by another program. If saving fails, the app signals it with an alert sound.
Does Rewind close along with its window?
No: the close button hides the app to the tray and recording continues. You can quit from the tray menu.
Does recording affect game performance?
Rewind tries to stay out of the way: the game takes priority. Detailed measurements will follow later.
